+ for the love of anna wintour.

Anna Wintour (image courtesy of style.com)

Sometimes we wonder if the recession is winding down when someone bids $42,500 for a one week internship at the offices of Vogue Magazine. A lucky bidder bid exactly that amount to become Anna Wintour's new "Emily." The internship also does include a fashion show attendance, a $1,000 gift certificate to Christian Louboutin, a PS1 bag from Proenza Schouler, and a Duffel bag from Alexander Wang. But among those perks we are sure there will be lots of coffee runs to make, and possibly a run to the Hermes boutique on Madison Avenue to pick up a few scarves (assuming a taxicab does not hit the new "Emily.") The money from this bid is going to a good cause, namely, the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.

+

But what else can a depraved mind do with $42,500, which by the way is equivalent to the tuition for a year at NYU? Here are

+ One Hermes Birkin 30 Matte Fauve bag (worth $41,750 on ebay)
or...

+ Two nights in the Royal Suite of the Burj-al-Arab hotel in Dubai (worth $18,000 a night) with some leftover cash for high-end shopping.
or...

+ Three Cartier Roadster large model wristwatches (valued at $12,450 a piece.) with some leftover cash for any miscellaneous expenses.

What ever the case, spend (or save) the money wisely. ^_^

Core Values 2010 ad campaign (image courtesy of frillr.com)

Dolce & Gabbana is not the only luxury brand with fever for Futbol. Louis Vuitton has just shot a print ad campaign that features not one, not two, but THREE soccer legends - Pele, Zinedine Zidane, and Diego Maradona. The ad campaign was shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz in a cafe in Madrid, Spain as part of the Louis Vuitton Core Values campaign. The ads will be unveiled in June, just in time for the World Cup in South Africa. This is a genius ad campaign since it links a classic brand like Louis Vuitton to legendary players known in every corner of the globe, therefore adding exposure to the brand. This is just as good as when a sports broadcaster yells GOOOOOOOOLLLLL during a soccer match!

- censorship is very un-american.

1998 Yohji Yamamoto ad posted by Tavi. (uncensored image courtesy of www.ablogcuratedby.com)

Apparently China is not the only place were censorship can occur. This past Monday, Tavi Gevinson's blog "The Style Rookie" was shut down unexpectedly over a nude ad that she posted on the day of her 14th Birthday. The ad happened to be from a 1998 Yohji Yamamoto ad that featured Maggie Rizer. Her blog, which operates from Google-owned Blogspot.com had violated a Terms of Service agreement which happens to prohibit nude pictures of any kind. The blog came back on Monday evening, but we are sure Tavi will no longer post any scandalous content while she is still under a Blogspot domain. Since Big Brother is watching us, we edited the above image by putting a little censorship sign lest we also get shut down. It is a shame though that we had to put the CENSORED sign over her nipples since good art should never be censored!

+ from an altar of disco to an altar of shopping.

The eyesore that the abandoned Church building located on the corner of Sixth Avenue and 20th Street is about to get a new lease on life (no pun intended) as the owners of the space are going to turn this edifice into a shopping bazaar, reminiscent of the Holiday Market that is held inside Grand Central Terminal. The building has undergone a bizarre reincarnation from an Episcopal Church, to a famous gay nightclub named The Limelight (which was featured in the film Party Monster, and would lead to the rise of the famed "Club Kids",) to a regular nightclub named Avalon that shut down in 2007. The question is, how well is this experiment in retail going to work?

+ new media symposium at city college.

Tavi Gevinson. (photo courtesy of fashionista.com)

Recent discussions in the world of fashion media have tackled on the topic of the future of print media. Can print media survive the onslaught of new gadgets coming out like the Kindle and the iPad? Today, a panel moderated by Marie Griffin of Griffin Marketing & PR took place at CUNY City College and spoke about what the fashion publications are doing to adapt to the new media circles. When one talks about new media, one cannot forget about the role that fashion bloggers play in this circle. It is the fashion blogger who has made the fashion industry more egalitarian by voicing the opinions of the average person who works outside the industry. Amy Astley, the editor in chief of Teen Vogue, was praising the work of Tavi Gevinson who happens to be already a major name in the blogosphere at the tender age of 14. Despite the critical acclaim that many bloggers are receiving for their insightful opinions, Astley tells us that the perks that bloggers are receiving like front row seats to fashion shows are just publicity stunts that are meant to highlight their embrace of the new media.

+

Print media will die a slow death, only because there are some people who just value the experience of looking at a magazine and perousing through its editorial spreads. That is one experience you will not get by viewing it from an iPad. The only reason why eventually fashion media will be forced to switch to this new media is because most of its audience does not pick up magazine and newspapers like before. This generation gets their information in real-time either from the television or from the internet, and the challenge is to gain the attention of this audience. It is safe to say that fashion bloggers are here to stay, and also be the first ones to provide information to their readers in a speedy manner.

+ forza azzuri.

For the fans of calcio (Italian for soccer) out there, Dolce & Gabbana is gearing up for the upcoming FIFA World Cup with a collection of underwear and sportwear that will be supporting the Italian team. The designers decided to feature five players from the Italian national squad in the ad, which was shot by Mariano Vivanco. From left to right they are: Antonio Di Natale, Vincenzo Iaquinta, Federico Marchetti, Claudio Marchisio, and Domenico Criscito. The collection will feature underwear with the words CALCIO and ITALIA, and the sportswear is in the blue and white colors of the Italian squad. This collection will be available mid-May at all Dolce & Gabbana boutiques. Now the $64 million dollar question: can Italy win the cup again like it did four years ago, or will Brazil come out triumphant?

+ stand in line for some of this diet coke!

If there is one fashion mastermind we adore and know that he is infallible, it is Karl Lagerfeld. He has a teddy bear designed in his image, and now will be designing limited edition bottles of Diet Coke in France (they call it Coca-Cola Light.) The bottles will have a pink cap and feature his silhouette, and there will be a boxed collector's edition of the bottle with a matching cap opener that will sell for $64 in France. It is not surprising to see this collaboration between Lagerfeld and Diet Coke occur since he alleges that he lost 90 pounds on a diet of steamed vegetables and Diet Coke.

+

An ad was shot for this collaboration featuring model Coco Rocha and Lagerfeld's model protege boy toy Baptiste Giabiconi that will make everyone including us want to get in line for some!!! Cheers!

+ from russia with love.

The name Naomi Campbell has been on the radar lately, not for being on the runway but for running away from the law. Early last month the runway icon made headlines for alledgedly beating her chauffeur and then evading the police immediately. This time Naomi fans will be pleased to know she is on the news for being the guest editor of the April 2010 edition of Vogue Russia. The issue is meant to also coincide with her 40th Birthday coming up on May 22. The editorial photos were taken by Steven Meisel, Mario Testino, and Solve Sundsbo. It helps to know that her current boyfriend is Russian billionaire Vladimir Doronin. He knows Russian Vogue editor Aliona Doletskaya personally, so it is not surprising to see her getting an entire magazine dedicated to her. Work bitch!
